Wicked Blood - Wicked Good

What do you get when you cross child-stars-all-grown-up Abigail Breslin and Alexa Vega, rugged, tough guy/leading men Sean Bean and James Purefoy, excellent character actors Lew Temple and Jake Busey, meth labs and biker gangs in the deep South? You get WICKED BLOOD, a star-studded, revenge-filled action thriller that hits blu-ray and DVD today.

Hannah (Abigail Breslin), is an orphaned teenager living in a southern town with her sister, Amber (Alexa Vega), and drug
addicted/meth maker Uncle Donny (Lew Temple)  Hannah spends her days playing chess and laying low from the corrupt town's drug dealings.  Hannah's other Uncle Frank (Sean Bean) is the criminal kingpin running the "family business."

Hannah doesn't fear Uncle Frank, she just wants a normal, non-corrupt, family.  Her Uncle Donny tries to protect and guide her from Uncle Frank's business, but when Hannah sees a move that could win her family freedom, she talks Uncle Frank into hiring her as a carrier.

During one of her routine drops, Hannah meets Bill (James Purefoy), an outlaw biker, meth trafficker and family rival.  Hannah's upfront personality turns Bill into a friend and father figure.  Bill also becomes her sister's boyfriend.  As relationships progress and Hannah continues her strategy, her cousin Bobby (Jake Busey), Uncle Frank's son and henchman, learns bout Bill's relationship with Amber, causing Hannah to adjust her moves to meet her wanted end result.

Wicked Blood delivers you just what the title says.  The chess analogy running throughout shows Hannah's clever, strategic mind and her willingness to make sacrifices that always happen in a game of chess.  The movie's star, Abigail Breslin always surprises me in her role choices.  Each role is different from the last and each time I think she's peaked, she continues to top her previous performances.

The stellar supporting cast are just that, they support the main
character.  One performance that does stand out is Lew Temple.  I have only seen him in his brief, likeable role in The Walking Dead.  In Wicked Blood, Lew has the daunting task of playing a drug addict and meth maker for Uncle Frank.  He knows he has no out, same as his brother and sister-in-law had none.  He wants his nieces to have a better life, but has no means to give it to them.  We feel his struggle and desperation and see him as a good man; no easy task.

Wicked Blood shows us not all sacrifices are physical, many are mental. The writing and star-studded cast make Wick Blood, Wicked Good.
